Meet Dr. Ashish Rawal


 



Board-certified orthopedic surgeon Ashish M. Rawal, MD, provides compassionate, state-of-the-art orthopedic care for patients with shoulder and knee conditions. Dr. Rawal works with his patients to determine the best personalized solution to restore their quality of life. 

Originally from Chicago, Dr. Rawal attended the University of Illinois in Champaign, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry with Honors. He then earned his medical degree from the University of Illinois at Chicago before completing his residency in orthopedic surgery at the same institution. He was elected by his peers and mentors to be an Administrative Chief Resident during his final year of residency.

Afterward, Dr. Rawal completed a sports medicine fellowship at Methodist Sports Medicine in Indianapolis, Indiana. His fellowship training focused on the arthroscopic treatment of shoulder, knee, elbow, and ankle injuries. While in Indiana, Dr. Rawal worked with athletes from Indiana University, Butler University, University of Indianapolis, and the NFL's Indianapolis Colts. In Madison, he was also the head physician for the Capitols hockey.

He completed fellowship training in cartilage restoration at The Knee Restoration Center of Indiana under the mentorship of world-renowned cartilage expert, Dr. Jack Farr. As an Associate Master Instructor for the Arthroscopy Association of North America, Dr. Rawal is committed to teaching the latest techniques in arthroscopic surgery and has taught orthopedic surgeons from around the world.

He is one of three elected sports medicine surgeons to serve as a representative of Wisconsin for the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

Dr. Rawal frequently treats conditions such as ACL tears, rotator cuff tears, meniscus and cartilage injuries, shoulder labral injuries, shoulder dislocations, and arthritis of the shoulder and knee.

Dr. Rawal also specializes in advanced cartilage restoration techniques, meniscus transplants, osteochondral allografts, and matrix autologous chondrocyte implantation (MACI).
